KERRIE FORD ABOUT ME I started riding at age 8,started Pony Club, competed in everything possible from eventing, games, dressage, jumping etc. Progressed through the grades at PC, competing in level 1 State Horse Trials as well as State Games and Lots of Zone events as well. I got my first OTT TB when I was only 12, Archie was the one who I pretty much did everything with in PC and EA . We won many awards in our partnership together, with our main love being eventing. I then joined EA and competed 2 horses in Pre Novice Eventing , one comp which meant a lot to me was placing on both my horses at the prestigious Wandin 2DE. The other horse I rode was my sisters cross bred who I partnered for a few seasons as well. We had so much fun together , and I would have to say the highlight was riding him over the steeplechase and then getting clear around the course at Wandin.
After year 12 I went to work for Bart Cummings for 18 months riding track work, schooling TB’s over the hurdles as well as taking them swimming and to the races. Then went onto work for Nigel Blackiston for 18 months then onto Limerick Lane TB Stud at Nagambie. There I still rode track work but I also rode the breakers too. Learnt all about mares and foaling down and yearling prep as well. I stopped working when I was pregnant with my daughter , who is now 7.
I am now working with my hubby at our family run business Ford Foods which has been operating for around 16 months. We have been married 10 years and we have 2 kids, Maddison 7 and Lachlan 5. We have a 26 acre property at Wallan, Vic, where I stand a welsh Cob stallion, Fluer De Lys Jack Daniel. Along with other ponies and brood mares, including TB’s and WB’s. I compete mainly these days in Dressage , a bit of jumping at comps like Barastoc or Combined Training days. In HRCAV I am Advanced level with Dan and level 3 with my sisters young Dutchman WB mare. I also compete EA on these 2 horses as well, just started Medium with the welsh Cob Daniel and prelim with Anna the young WB.
My stud called Waldarrah Performance Horses (http://www.waldarrahperformancehorses.com/) has been operating for just over 3 years now. I have bred a few tbxwb foals, and now concentrating on breeding performance horses and ponies. My kids are currently enjoying riding a grey welsh section C 3yo filly who we bred here . They have taken her to a few little shows and we hope to start PC next year with them.
I am breeding mainly cob x tb’s this season, with an anglo Arabian mare to Dan as well. I also have a section C mare in foal to a welsh x in the hope to breed a nice Pony Dressage mount for my kids .
My main aim for the next 12 months is to continue to breed ponies with superb temperaments with a view of competing them in Pony Dressage. I also want to go Advanced EA with Dan in the next 12 months as well as take Anna up through the levels of HRCAV and EA Dressage. Maybe even get graded jumping on her too.
My whole stud are fed Equine Chia and I couldn’t be happier with how they are looking and working. The first crop of foals born last year were sensational and I have no doubt that is due to feeding there dams Equine Chia throughout their pregnancies.
